A Parent’s Dream :: Bumble – Los Altos, CA

As a parent there are certain things I dream of: world peace, an end to the drought here in California, lower home prices, my family’s overall health and happiness… and the opportunity to enjoy a meal uninterrupted while dining out at a restaurant. See, there are many things that are sacrificed when you have kids, one of them being the ability to have a meal without your blood pressure rising to near-heart-attack levels because your toddler prefers to jump on the dining chair instead of sit in it, or prefers to wail through the outing instead of sit quietly, or thinks it’s funny to drop pieces of food on the floor instead of leave it on the plate. Call me crazy, but I continue to take my chances, hoping I’ll catch the one minuscule instance my kiddo is cooperative and will endure a meal without it launching into hysteria.

In my dream, I can imagine hearing the hostess tell me there is a table with my name on it before I even reach the podium. I am seated immediately. And look, there’s already coffee on the table! I can see the food arrive minutes after I place my order. I take my time to eat in peace… without the other restaurant patrons shooting me the evil eye.

We all can dream, right?

When our fabulous photographer Zha Zha recommended Bumble in Los Altos after shooting Riley’s 3rd birthday, I can’t describe how happy we were to learn that this restaurant is equipped with a playroom and sandpit. The restaurant staff supervises the playroom so parents may dine and converse without interruption. #sold!

Look at all these happy diners!

Bumble is a charming family-friendly, farm-to-fork restaurant based in downtown Los Altos. They pride themselves in being a supporter of local farmers and fresh produce sourced and grown in California. As a result, the seasonal menu is ever-changing in accordance with what type of produce is growing and thriving at the time.

And this playroom is meant for kids ONLY! Parents may purchase increments of 30 minutes for their kids to play while they dine on-site. You may even have your child’s food delivered so they can have their meal without leaving the playroom.

We ordered a few things from the menu; like these crepes with fruit compote.

A sandbox at the front of the restaurant entrance is great entertainment for the kids while the parents wait for their table. Riley spent quite a bit of time here and was eager to get back into it after finishing her food.

Her poor mac-n-cheese didn’t stand a chance!

This playroom is stocked with every toy and activity imaginable!

We also ordered the breakfast burrito (made with scrambled eggs, bacon!, potatoes, peppers, salsa and black beans), in addition to their breakfast sandwich (ham, swiss and eggs on an english muffin with avocado aioli + greens). Both entrees were super tasty and filling!

Bumble can also be reserved for birthday parties and private events too. On Sunday evenings they host a family movie night; you may find their calendar here.

If you are in the area, I highly recommend visiting this cozy family-friendly restaurant! Who said dreams never come true?!
