Honolulu Photo Diary – Part 2

It feels like ages ago since our vacation to Hawaii (part 1, here). To be honest, there isn’t a day that has passed where I’m not pretending I’m sitting at the pool, eating a shave ice or walking along the Waikiki strip. Once you get a taste of the good life (#hlife), it’s hard to come back to reality. I’m trying to figure out just where we’ll go next. Any suggestions?

To escape the touristy Waikiki area, we rented a car for a few days and drove up North to Haliewa and Waimea; stopping at the Dole Pineapple Plantation, Matsumoto’s Shave Ice, Sunset Beach and Giovanni’s famous shrimp truck.

We had the best intentions of hanging out and spending a day at the beach to let Riley play in the surf and sand, but the waves were much rougher than in Waikiki and too much for a toddler to handle. Not to mention it was just too hot and humid to sit out baking in the sun. We picked up a fresh coconut, snapped a few beachy pictures, then headed on our way.

Do not disturb. Relaxation in progress.

Riley’s pineapple stand.

Local boogie boarders; future pro surfers in the making.

Our daily visit to see the koi pond at the Sheraton.

This was our go-to shop for quick and easy snacks. They sold a variety of musubis (sushi) and bento lunch boxes. There was always a line of Japanese tourists, so I assume this place is authentic.

Shave ice. Waiola > Matsumoto’s, hand’s down!

Despite spending 7 full days in Hawaii, it flew by. Thankfully we have these photos and tan lines to remember this trip. Mahalo, Oahu! We’ll see you again soon.

I love Hawaii. We stayed at the Sheraton last year too! Love the amenities. Wished we were able to stay at the Royal Hawaiian.

Great photos! Your daughter is so cute ^^ I haven’t been to Hawaii, but when I go, I think I’ll have to do something similar and avoid tourist filled areas.
