Our Great Escape (Room) & Giveaway

By the end of each week, I am always dying to escape; escape my commute, escape my 9-to-5 duties, escape the endless chores at home and escape out of town from time-to-time. So when I was invited to visit Omescape in San Jose the other weekend, I thought, “Hmmm, what am I getting myself into? Or rather out of?” Escape games are a type of physical adventure game (think of a real-life video game, or Indiana Jones) in which a group of people are locked in a series of rooms and have to use elements and objects to solve a series of puzzles, uncover clues, and ultimately escape within a set time limit. All you have to bring is your detective hat, analytical mind and a group of friends in order to solve puzzles as you race against a clock. Seems easy enough, right?

It only seemed appropriate to invite my coworkers to join me. I mean, since we work together on a daily basis, we were already familiar with each other’s thought processes, emotions and capabilities. Much like siblings, we fight, debate and compromise, but we eventually get the job done.

We signed up for the game called “Pandemic Zero”. We were tasked with finding the cure to save the world by solving a series of puzzles. #NoPressure! Now I can’t go into details about the challenges set before us, but all I can say is that our group had a blast. We were so impressed with the actual production of each room and the complexity of the puzzles. Using a combination of common sense and Houdini skills, we were able to solve the puzzles… well, most of the time.

In fact, the adrenaline, the constant head scratching and the overall amazement has created a bit of an addiction. Once we completed “Pandemic Zero”, we immediately made plans to return and try another game. Our goal is to complete them all, at each of the Omescape locations.

And to my Bay Area readers, if you’re up for the challenge and would like to try a room escape game, I’m giving away free tickets to Omescape in San Jose. To enter, please leave a comment below and let me know which game you’d like to try. Five winners will be randomly chosen on November 30, 2016. (Unfortunately, the tickets are non-transferable to other locations).

This giveaway is in partnership with Omescape but all thoughts and opinions are my own.
