Last weekend, Zha Zha and I spent the day exploring and eating our way through Palo Alto. For those that don’t live in the Bay Area, Palo Alto is midway between San Francisco and San Jose. This city is home to Stanford University, IKEA and just across the freeway from Facebook’s headquarters. Needless to say, with all the activity that’s been happening here in Silicon Valley, Palo Alto has also undergone quite a few changes. You may even bump into good ‘ol Zucks while strolling through the neighborhood. New restaurants, cafes, coffee shops and boutiques have been sprouting up faster than I can keep up. Last weekend I was excited to try several new places and will be sharing my visit to Palo Alto here on TKC over the next few weeks.
First stop is Chantal Guillon , a macaron purveyor that often ranks high on many macaron must-try lists. This shop is definitely deserving of its recognition as the macaron cookies are so light and crispy. Not to mention, the shop itself is bright, airy and chic. A sea of macarons and the endless flavors like coffee, blueberry creme fraiche, pistachio and blood orange, to name a few. I wanted to try them all!! These poor macarons didn’t stand a chance against my sweet tooth. I ate all six macarons within two hours of getting home. Next time I’ll get a dozen, who am I kidding? My favorite flavors were passion fruit, guava, and the raspberry, lychee + rose. Sorry macarons, you’ve met your maker!
